The Miss Birmingham pageant holds one of the longest and most storied legacies in Alabama pageantry, with roots reaching back to the earliest years of the Miss America Competition. Birmingham first entered the national stage in 1921, the inaugural year of Miss America through 1926. After a brief pause, the title returned and competed again from 1933 through 1948, marking more than two decades in which Miss Birmingham helped shape Alabama’s presence in the national spotlight. Following 1948, the pageant remained inactive until 1979, when renewed interest and community support brought the title back to life. For more than a decade—from 1979 to 1990—the Miss Birmingham program thrived once again, producing contestants who contributed meaningfully to the Miss Alabama stage and to Birmingham’s civic landscape. After 1990, the pageant entered another period of inactivity. Its modern era began in 2006, when new leadership stepped in to revive the title and restore its place within the Miss Alabama Opportunity. This relaunch marked a turning point: Miss Birmingham became not only a competition but a platform for service, leadership development, and community engagement across the Magic City.
Since that moment in 2006, Miss Birmingham, Miss Cahaba Valley & Miss Hidden River have been representing the Birmingham and Cahaba Valley areas and Miss Covered Bridge has been representing the Oneonta & Blount County area at Miss Alabama with style, grace, poise & Intelligence.
